Who Am I?

My name is Bil Sadler and I live in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. My family and I moved here in 2018 from Albany, Georgia. I regularly drove back and forth until September of 2020 when I sold my financial practice in Albany to my brother. Now I focus on helping clients on the panhandle of Florida, mostly in Walton, Bay, and Okaloosa counties.

RETIREES AND PEOPLE NEARING RETIREMENT

My primary focus is helping retirees and people who are getting ready to retire. The reason for this focus is because of the unique tax issues that retirees face. My background in tax made this a great fit for my investment services.

TAX PLANNING*

So yes, I am a CPA, but I no longer prepare taxes. Rather, I focus on tax planning. Why tax planning?

While you are required to file a tax return, what you really want are ideas to pay less tax. Quite frankly, when I was preparing tax returns I was too busy pumping out tax returns to stop and do tax planning. I'm sure most tax preparers would agree. Besides, preparing a tax return has to do with what happened in the past, while tax planning is about what you can do in the future.

Because of my focus on investments and taxes, my mantra is to help you preserve your wealth and lower your taxes.

CLIENT MEETINGS

As a result of the great lockdown of 2020, no one wanted to come to an office any more. So, like many self-employed people who move to the beach, I work from my home. I meet with clients in their home or place of business, by phone, and sometimes by Zoom. I'm sure I'll eventually get an office, but for now working from home seems to work great.

PROCESS FIRST

The way I practice is different than your typical financial salesperson who focuses on selling you a product. Rather than product-focused, I am process-focused. Let's work on your retirement plan, income distribution plan, tax plan, protection plan, and estate plan - then we can figure out the products to carryout your plan.

EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS

The way I meet new clients is through seminars. My seminars are educational - no products and no pitches. Typically, I'll make you an offer at my seminar - not to sell you something, but to give you something.

For example, for the Social Security seminar, I'll offer a complimentary Social Security Analysis seeking to help you maximize/optimize your retirement benefits over your lifetime. This complimentary Analysis helps you make the best decision for you and your spouse. After someone receives their Social Security Analysis, if they're interested in becoming a client, then I share how it works - no pitch, no pressure, no obligation - we're either a good fit or we're not, and either is okay.

For the Tax Seminar, I offer a complimentary Tax Analysis to help you pay less tax and keep more of your retirement money. And for the Retirement Seminar, I offer a Retirement Analysis to help with your retirement decisions.

Bil with one "L" is not a typo.

Most people think Bil with one "L" is a typo. It's not. Here's the story.

My real name is William, but for some reason my parents gave me a nickname - "Billy." I HATED IT!

By the second grade I had heard all the Billy jokes - "Billy Boy," "Billy Bob," and of course, "Billy Goat." I had had enough.

So in the second grade I told my parents I wanted to drop the "y" and be called "Bill" - it sounded more mature. (Yep, that's me in the second grade.)

My nickname stayed "B-I-L-L" until I was a senior in high school. It was 1985 and I was on spring break in Panama City Beach, Florida. On the last day of spring break, as I was leaving the beach, I stopped by The Surf Hut to buy a name plate for the front of my truck (it was a pretty cool looking Toyota 4WD).

The many tag designs were displayed on the wall at The Surf Hut, so I pointed at one and asked, "How much is that tag with four letters?"

The guy behind the counter said, "The tag is $8 and it's a dollar a letter, so $12."

I looked in my wallet and said, "Great, I have exactly $12 left over from my spring break trip."

So the guy did the cash register and said, "That'll be $12.84."

"Wait, whaaat? I thought you said $12? I've only got $12!"

I forgot about the sales tax!!!

We went back and forth trying to figure out how I could get the name plate with "B-I-L-L" with only $12. I even offered to mail him $5 when I got home.

Finally, the guy says, "Look man, I don't wanna get fired. So how 'bout if I paint on three of the letters now, leave a space, and when you come back to the beach, I can paint on the fourth letter."

I never went back for the fourth letter.
